The steps of this project include the following:

  • Tri-Cities Chapter of Continental Society, Inc. has developed a Facebook page, Instagram account, and website to promote the concept of “I Am” to the general population as well as education community.

    • The social media outlets include memes, photos, and links that help further support our project mission. Resources include articles regarding the strength of positive affirmations, positive self-esteem, as well as bullying.

  • Tri-Cities Chapter of Continental Society, Inc. will set up a photo booth and information table at A.P. Hill Elementary School.

    • The photo booth will allow students to take selfies or small group pictures with their friends. The booth will include props as well as words that promote positive affirmations. These photos can then be uploaded to the “I Am” social media outlets or photos can be tagged with #iAm.

    • The information table will include copies of articles that are relevant to our theme. These articles are particularly timely to educators and parents. Additional resources and/or activity sheets may be provided for student use.

  • Tri-Cities Chapter of Continental Society, Inc. will provide teachers with a positive affirmation sheet, highlighting five words to be discussed. One word will be highlighted each day. This can be incorporated into the morning routine, or as the teacher sees the connection in the lessons for the day. It is recommended that the word be presented with the definition and then followed with a discussion of what it means to the students. To close the lesson, a positive affirmation has been recommended.

  • Tri-Cities Chapter of Continental Society, Inc. will provide teachers with coloring sheets that students can take home and work with their parents or can complete in the classroom. This coloring sheet is intended to further the connection of the “I Am” them to help prevent bullying and increase “buddying.”

  • Tri-Cities Chapter of Continental Society, Inc. will attend the “Chat and Chew” scheduled for February 1, 2018 at 4:00 pm. Members will be available to meet with teachers, students, and parents to discuss our goals and ways we can possibly increase our partnership with the school.

As part of our appreciation for assisting with this project, we plan to provide small incentives for the students, such as snacks or door prizes. Teachers may receive additional school supplies as well. We hope that these small incentives will help encourage participation throughout the project.

At the conclusion of the project, we will provide a voluntary short survey for students and teachers to complete. We want to determine which pieces of this project were the most beneficial. This data will be anonymous and will only be used internally as a means to determine what changes or improvements should be made to the project for future implementation

The Tri-Cities Chapter of Continental Society, Inc. has begun a project to promote the power of using affirmation in an attempt to encourage individuals to recognize their personal power and creativity. The end goal is to help promote positive self-image to students, so they will be less likely to become a victim of bullying or to become a bully.

This project is in direct alignment of promoting a growth mindset in the classroom and educational community. By promoting a growth mindset, we encourage students to believe that they can achieve goals even if they may not have the skills they need right this moment. While the growth mindset may not be developed by simply “speaking it into existence,” a positive attitude most definitely helps students get past potential roadblocks. It will enable them to know that failures or problems do not define them.

In an attempt to promote the growth mindset and positive self-image, we proposed a multi-step project to A.P. Hill Elementary School. There are four points of connection in this project: 1) students; 2) teachers; 3) parents; and 4) social media. This project is attempting to bring in a systems perspective to include the stakeholders in the students’ well-being.
